THE SITES
    1. The mighty Rio Grande River, starting in Southern Colorado, is reaching its full potential as it surges through the Deep Canyons around Taos. A morning looking across a high mountain meadow bordered with golden aspens, blue spruce, and tall pines. Followed by a mid-day break to visit galleries, museums, historical sites, or shopping. Then a late afternoon session overlooking the Rio Grande gorge as it snakes across the high plains towards Colorado, flanked by the Sangre de Christo Mountains under a huge dramatic sky as the sun sinks into the west.
    2. There is a Beautiful little Church where Georgia O'Keeffe painted several of her famous Crosses. No longer in use, the grounds are not open to the public, but we have special permission for our group to be here one day. Golden Cottonwoods are set off against the ancient curves of the adobe walls.
    3. The Fertile Valleys around Taos, nestled deep within rugged hillsides, nurture a patchwork of Fields, Orchards, and sheep pastures watered by nearby mountains. We will set up on the rim overlooking this idyllic scene from a bygone era.
    4. There is a nearby Clear Mountain Lake with stunning Golden Cottonwoods reflected in its smooth surface and Pine covered mountains in the distance.
    5. A wonderful Adobe Home and Studio in the Taos valley that has a beautiful walled garden with 2 arched entry gates and views of the Taos mountains to the north and the Picuris mountains to the south.
    6. Northern New Mexico featured the very first vineyards in North America. We will visit and paint in one of these vineyards tucked in a Mountain valley near a tributary to the Rio Grande.

    ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR

    Paul Murray

Albert Einstein said “The mysterious is the most wonderful thing we can experience. It is the basis for all art and science.” The technology which science has created has made us prosperous and comfortable — and we hold it in high regard. But we should not elevate science at the expense of art; there is a great part of our life which can't be put into any formula. My goal as an artist is to explore these enigmatic ideas and illuminate those things which make life rich and valuable.
It is axiomatic that science is the domain of the mind and art comes from the heart. Our mind by itself cannot tell us if something is right or wrong, true or false or if what we have done is worthwhile — unless our heart agrees.

"To say an artist likes light is like saying a musician likes noise. But a musician is selective about the noise he or she picks in order to create music and that is what I try to do with Light as an artist. To me there is great emotional power in Light. It has the same qualities as music – it evokes emotions without using words."
